| Q: |
“Motion detection” has been around for a while. What do you do differently?
|
| A: |
Basic motion detection algorithms are fine for determining if anything is moving in a simple environment. But what happens when your environment is complex? Something will always be moving almost anywhere you point a camera outside. Aimetis algorithms use the current and historical states of the video feed to determine not only if something is moving, but where it is moving from—distinct objects are actually tracked and displayed to you in real time. Using inferior algorithms will result in significant false alarms. Visit the Sample Video page for examples.

| Q: |
Do I need an extra Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or Network Video Recorder (NVR) software as well as Aimetis Symphony?
|
| A: |
No, Aimetis Symphony is a fully integrated NVR product with intelligence. All video recording, storing, streaming and analysis is done by Aimetis Symphony. This saves integration headaches, costs and time as compared to standalone Intelligent Video Surveillance (IVS) products which require you to integrate a DVR with the intelligent software. Aimetis Symphony can be used as a stand alone system and is installable on commercial off-the-shelf hardware (COTS).
|
| Q: |
I already have a Digital Video Recorder. Can I reuse this? |
| A: |
Yes and no. The DVR is not necessary since Aimetis Symphony performs all the core features. You can however run both in parallel if you like by splitting the video and sending one feed to Aimetis Symphony and the other to your DVR.
|
| Q: |
Do you operate with PTZ cameras?
|
| A: |
Yes, Aimetis Symphony can automatically control the PTZ camera with the Enterprise Edition, or you can manually control the PTZ cameras through Symphony Explorer.. No multiplexor is required. The PTZ cameras are controlled through the serial port (for analog PTZs) or via network interface (for network PTZs).
|
| Q: |
Where is Aimetis Symphony applicable?
|
| A: |
Our customers include automotive, construction, military, parking facilities and general commercial buildings.
|
| Q: |
Does Aimetis Symphony integrate with my existing CCTV or IP camera installation?
|
| A: |
Aimetis Symphony can be connected directly to any analog device provided you install a capture card in the computer. We recommend Winnov Videum 4400 capture cards. Regarding network cameras, our software works with most network devices and USB devices. Visit our device list for a complete listing.
|
| Q: |
How many cameras can be connected to Aimetis Symphony?
|
| A: |
Aimetis Symphony is completely scalable. It can scale from a single camera to thousands of cameras.
|
| Q: |
What is the difference between a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and a Network Video Recorder (NVR)? |
| A: |
DVRs typically utilize proprietary PC based devices and contain an analog to digital capture card. NVRs are a software based product, installable on any off-the-shelf PCs with a standard Ethernet interface for receiving video and controlling PTZ cameras.
|
| Q: |
What video codec does Aimetis Symphony use? |
| A: |
For network cameras Aimetis Symphony will store video in the camera’s native format (MJPEG or MPEG-4). USB and analog cameras are stored in MPEG-4 format. |
