RAID configurations

Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is a category of disk drives that employ two or more drives in combination for fault tolerance and performance. RAID disk drives can be used on video management servers for greater fault tolerance, but are not necessary for client PCs.

Recommendation

We recommend that you use name brand servers as the hardware platform for the video management software, from manufacturers such as Dell or HP. This will ensure hardware is properly tested and is stable.

If clone servers are desired, it is recommended to using external PCI raid controllers from 3ware or Intel. Using the onboard RAID offered on the motherboard is not recommended. Disk failure seems much higher in these scenarios.
