How to change download scheduling and speed for Device Pack and Symphony Client updates

Downloading a Device Pack or Symphony Client update typically takes about 5 minutes. The Symphony Server determines when a download will start (based on DownloadUpdateSchedulerInterval and UpdateDownloadMax and the current server load) and when it will be installed (based on Server and Client Update settings in the user interface.)

Change Download Scheduling

Every 10 minutes Symphony checks for Device Pack and Symphony Client updates on the server.You can override this interval by using a global setting in the Manual Configuration Editor.

1. From the Server menu, select Manual Configuration Editor.
2. Click Add a new setting... in the first row to activate the cells.
3. In the blank field under the Type, Section, Key, and Value columns, enter

Type=Global 
Section=UpdateDeployment 
Key=DownloadUpdateSchedulerInterval 
Value=1  (where value is equal to minutes)

4. Click Apply.
5. Close the Manual Configuration Editor.

Download takes about 5 minutes, however Symphony Server decide when download will start (based on DownloadUpdateSchedulerInterval and UpdateDownloadMax and current server load) and when it will be installed (based on Server and Client when to update GUI settings)

Change Download Speed

Typically, downloading a Device Pack or Symphony Client installation takes about 5 minutes (approximately 128 Kb per second). You can increase the speed of downloads in the Manual Configuration Editor.

1. From the Server menu, select Manual Configuration Editor.
2. Click Add a new setting... in the first row to activate the cells.
3. In the blank field under the Type, Section, Key, and Value columns, enter

Type=Global 
Section=UpdateDeployment 
Key=UpdateDownloadSpeedKBytesSec 
Value=1024  (where Value is equal to kilobytes per second; 1024 is the maximum, delivering the Device Pack in less than one minute)

4. Click Apply.
5. Close the Manual Configuration Editor.

Change how many Symphony Clients to simultaneously download the Device Pack or Symphony Client update

1. From the Server menu, select Manual Configuration Editor.
2. Click Add a new setting... in the first row to activate the cells.
3. In the blank field under the Type, Section, Key, and Value columns, enter

Type=Global 
Section=UpdateDeployment 
Key=UpdateDownloadMax 
Value=10  (where 10 is the default value)

4. Click Apply.
5. Close the Manual Configuration Editor.
