The origin of our name comes from two concepts:
- "AI", refers to the acronym for Artificial Intelligence, the science behind Aimetis technology.
- "Metis", is the name of the shape shifting Greek goddess of wisdom and knowledge.
The two conepts together form Aimetis.

Waterloo – Canada’s Innovation Hub
Aimetis’ headquarter in Waterloo, Canada provides the company with a strategic advantage as it relates to its research and product development. The company’s proximity to the University of Waterloo, whose Faculty of Mathematics has the largest concentration of mathematical and computer science talent in the world, enables Aimetis to source from some of the best engineers specializing in computer vision.
The City of Waterloo was recently awarded the “2007 Intelligent Community of the Year” by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a New York headquartered organization that recognizes cities around the globe based on their intelligent capabilities. Best known as the home of BlackBerry developer Research in Motion, Waterloo is the center of innovation in Canada attracting C$1.8 billion in technology investment into the community over the past decade.
